In the early 1980s, after the Jackson 5 and before the Backstreet Boys there was a boy group called New Edition who owned the hearts of almost all teen girls across the world. The news of a New Edition Biopic has been buzzing around for almost a year, now the cast has finally been announced.
Five of the group’s members, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant, will reunite for the three-night miniseries premiering in 2016. All five will co-produce the untitled project. The cast has now been made official: Bryshere Y. Gray will play Michael Bivins; Elijah Kelley is Ricky Bell; singer-songwriter Luke James is Johnny Gill; Algee Smith is Ralph Tresvant; Keith Powers is Ronnie Devoe, and Woody McClain plays Bobby Brown.
Now, BET Networks is collaborating with Jesse Collins and the members of New Edition for a three-part mini-series event based on the iconic group. Johnny Gill, who joined the group after Bobby Brown left, Tresvant, DeVoe, Bivins and Bell will all serve as consultants and executive producers on the project, which is scheduled to air in 2016. The miniseries will give the New Edition fans an inside look on the members of the group music and lives. Now the cast has been announced its time for BET network to perfect the final product.
