Tracking Eta: These Central Florida schools are closed due to storm

ORLANDO, Fla. — As Tropical Storm Eta passed over Florida, some Central Florida school districts have closed schools.

This story will be updated as districts announce changes to their plans. Here’s what we know so far from local school districts:

Polk County Public Schools

Polk County Public Schools will be closed Thursday due to Hurricane Eta.

Marion County Public Schools

Marion County Public Schools officials said classes are canceled on Thursday due to the storm.

Orange County Public Schools

Orange County Public School officials said they are monitoring Eta, but so far do not have plans to cancel classes for the storm. Read their full statement below:

“We are monitoring Hurricane Eta closely in conjunction with the National Weather Service, the city and county. At this time, there are no plans to cancel classes for tomorrow.”

Seminole County Public Schools

Seminole County Public Schools plan to have classrooms open on Thursday.

“We continue to monitor Tropical Storm Eta with our partners at the Seminole County Office of Emergency Management, local meteorologists, and additional agencies. At this time, all SCPS schools and district facilities will remain OPEN tomorrow. As always, if the forecast changes or the weather condition deteriorates, we will keep you posted.”

Sumter County Public Schools

Sumter County school officials said schools will be closed on Thursday and reopen on Friday.

Brevard Public Schools

As of 1 p.m. Wednesday, Brevard Public School officials said schools will be open on Thursday.

Volusia County Public Schools

Volusia County Schools

Volusia County school officials said schools will be open Thursday.

Osceola County Schools

Osceola County School District officials said as of Wednesday morning that classes will be held as planned on Thursday.

We continue to monitor the storm with our local emergency management team, but at this time, there is no change in school operations for tomorrow.

Lake County Schools

Lake County School officials said classes will be canceled on Thursday due to Eta and are expected to reopen on Friday.
