According to KVIA and KTSM, the El Paso Zoo announced that mother Brianna and father Vitalis welcomed their third female offspring, or filly, early Tuesday.

“Both mom and baby are currently on display and doing just fine!” the zoo wrote in a Facebook post Thursday.

Although Przewalski’s horses were considered extinct in the wild until 1996, the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources now lists the species as endangered. An estimated 178 mature Przewalski’s horses, which are native to China and Mongolia, remain in the wild, according to the organization’s website.

“We are excited for the birth of our new Przewalski’s horse and the fact that we are contributing to the conservation and survival of the species,” said Griselda Martinez, the zoo’s collections supervisor, according to KTSM.
