The shooting occurred at around 7 p.m. EDT Monday outside the fast-food chain in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York, WABC-TV reported.

According to police, a 40-year-old customer complained to the 23-year-old victim, who was behind the counter at the time, that her fries were cold. She then called her 20-year-old son via FaceTime about the issue, and he showed up at the restaurant to confront the unidentified employee, the TV station reported.

The woman’s son is accused of spotting the employee outside the location and firing one shot from a handgun that struck the victim in the neck. The employee was transported to an area hospital where he was listed in critical condition, WCBS-TV reported.

The woman’s 20-year-old son was taken into custody at the scene, according to WABC.

Police also confirmed that there did not appear to be any previous connection between the victim and the suspect, WCBS reported.
