The deer had been spotted by a resident in Lansing, who told WLNS that the animal had the bucket stuck on its head for the last two weeks.

South Lyon Murphy Lost Animal Recovery shared photos of the rescue on its Facebook page, and said the deer was named “Lucky” for its release from its “pumpkin prison.”

The team of rescuers caught the deer in a net and managed to release it from the bucket in less than three minutes, WLNS reported.

In its Facebook post, South Lyon Murphy Lost Animal Recovery urged people to cut the handles on the buckets before tossing them into the trash. “We can prevent this. Deer are sooooo curious, like all life is. We are stewards of nature and we can all do a better job. This is why we do these recoveries.”

Other neighbors had previously tried to help the deer, but were unsuccessful, WLNS reported.
