God's Property

A self-contained urban gospel choir and band, God's Property was founded in 1992 in Dallas, Texas by Linda Ray Hall-Searight who, along with her son Robert Sput Searight, assembled the original musicians and singers and groomed them into a powerful, professional performing ensemble. The choir began an association with Kirk Franklin in 1993, and appeared on his 1995 Whatcha Looking 4 album. Franklin then produced (along with Scott "Shavoni" Parker, Buster Bond, and Kevin Bond) the choir's 1997 album God's Property from Kirk Franklin's Nu Nation, which went on to win a Grammy Award for Best Gospel Choir or Chorus Album in 1998. The album, driven by the radio hit "Stomp," sold some 2.7 million copies and sat on the Billboard gospel chart for 71 weeks, and even crossed over onto the secular chart lists, ending up the highest-charting crossover gospel album in history. ~ Steve Leggett
