‘Season for healing’: Jada Pinkett Smith breaks silence after Will Smith slaps Chris Rock

LOS ANGELES — Two days after her husband took the stage at the 94th Annual Academy Awards and hit comedian Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett Smith is offering her first public comment on the situation.

In an Instagram post, Pinkett Smith posted a simple text image saying, “This is a season for healing and I’m here for it.”

At Sunday’s award show, comedian Chris Rock made a joke about Pinkett Smith’s hair, prompting her husband, Will Smith, to go on stage and hit Rock, before coming back to his seat and yelling at the comedian.

Will Smith offered an apology to Chris Rock and others via Instagram Monday night.

On Monday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences condemned Smith’s behavior and said it had “officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our Bylaws, Standards of Conduct, and California law,” as we reported.
