PENDLETON, S.C. — A man in South Carolina pleaded guilty to using a fake COVID-19 test result in order to get out of court.
According to a news release from South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, Orin J. Kemp, 45, pleaded guilty to a charge of obstruction of justice and was sentenced to six years in prison for using a fake COVID-19 test result to get out of court.
On April 23, 2021, the AG’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit found that Kemp had presented a “counterfeit positive COVID-19 test to a Court of General Sessions in Greenville County,” according to the AG’s office.
According to WYFF, the AG’s office said Kemp had submitted the fake COVID-19 test result to request a continuance on a motion that would revoke his bond for other charges. WYFF reported that the motion to revoke the bond was continued based on the test results.
Kemp’s prior charges of exploitation and fraud were dropped in exchange for pleading guilty in this case, according to WHNS.
